People You Might Encounter
The Faelight Ball is not only a gathering of guests, but of presences: figures who help shape the atmosphere of the evening through conversation, music, ceremony, and quiet tension.
Some are widely known. Others pass through like sparks in lantern light. You are never required to seek anyone out, nor to engage beyond what feels comfortable. This page offers a glimpse of the kinds of people you may meet, so you can recognize them; not prepare for them.
The Willow Queen’s Court
At the heart of the evening stands the Court of the Willow Queen, whose presence lends the Ball both grace and gravity. Members of the Court may be seen observing, conversing, or moving through the space with quiet intention.
Guests are welcome to greet members of the Court respectfully if the moment feels right, though there is never any obligation to do so.
For those who wish to immerse more fully, the following notes may help you recognize - or properly address - these figures.
Her Radiant Majesty, the Willow Queen
The sovereign of the fae court, whose bearing is serene and watchful, and whose presence carries the weight of long memory. She is often surrounded by quiet ritual and careful courtesy, her attention felt even when her gaze rests elsewhere.
Formal address: Your Majesty, Your Radiance, or, if familiar, My Queen
His Grace, Lord Eldwin, Master of the Hunt and Consort to the Queen
A composed and attentive presence at the Queen’s side, known for courtesy, diplomacy, and a steady gaze that misses little. He moves with restraint and purpose, offering calm counsel and quiet vigilance throughout the evening.
Formal address: Your Grace, My Lord, or Lord Eldwin
Poppy, Mistress of Tiraelun
A figure closely associated with the living forest and its quiet endurance, often marked by warmth, attentiveness, and an ease among growing things. She is frequently found where conversations soften and tempers cool.
Formal address: Mistress of Tiraelun, My Lady, or Lady Poppy
Finskel, the Elder Hidden in the Dark
An ancient presence who speaks seldom and listens deeply, carrying an air of stillness that seems to gather the room around them. Fae and mortals alike regard Finskel with reverence, and not without a trace of unease.
Formal address: Honoured Elder
Victoria, the Ember-Warden, Sister to the Queen
A vivid and intense figure whose passions run close to the surface, recognizable by restless energy and an unmistakable spark of fire. Her presence brings warmth and volatility in equal measure, never easily ignored.
Formal address: My Lady or Lady Victoria — though some, behind her back, dare to call her Princess; a title she neither claims nor welcomes
Wesley Hartwell, Metal-Singer and Consort to Victoria
A mortal craftsman whose presence bridges worlds, marked by sincerity, grounded warmth, and a quiet confidence earned rather than claimed. He moves through the Court with care and respect, attentive more than imposing.
Formal address: Master Hartwell — or Wesley, if invited
Zauber, Bearer of the Elder’s Seal
A formal and deliberate figure tasked with witnessing, recording, and safeguarding matters of consequence. Never seen without the Elder-Seal Ring, Zauber’s presence signals that words and actions are being carefully noted.
Formal address: Seal Bearer or Zauber
Brynwald, Herald of the Willow Queen
The keeper of ceremony within the Queen’s court, whose calm authority often signals moments of significance. Brynwald is frequently accompanied by the Lanternwardens of Ceremony, who assist in guiding the flow of the evening and observing its subtler currents.
Formal address: Master Herald (and, on rare ceremonial occasions, the Voice of the Queen)
Ravenna, Seer of the Willow Court
A composed and observant presence, often found at the edges of gathering places where conversation thins and the air feels charged. She offers insight sparingly, tempered with care and consequence.
Formal address: Storm-Seer, My Lady, or Lady Ravenna
Attendants of Ceremony
Trusted members of the Willow Court who serve directly under Brynwald; known collectively as The Lanternwardens of Ceremony. They move quietly at the edges of important moments; carrying messages, guiding guests, and lending steadiness when formality and grace are most needed. Their presence is subtle, but unmistakable — a sign that tradition, order, and the Faelight itself are close at hand.
Formal address: Lanternwarden
A Note on Courtly Address
You may hear these names spoken, or recognize these figures by bearing or regalia. While guests are welcome to greet members of the Court if the moment feels appropriate, you are never expected to know names, titles, or forms of address in order to enjoy the evening. Courtesy, attentiveness, and kindness are always sufficient.
These details are offered only for those who delight in such things.
Human Dignitaries
Among the assembled guests are human dignitaries representing the mortal realm. These may include real-world mayors or members of municipal council, attending as honored guests of the Ball.
While their presence supports the story’s backdrop as representatives of human governance, there is no expectation that they participate in character or theatrical interaction. Some may enjoy light, in-world conversation; others may prefer to engage simply as themselves. Both approaches are welcome and respected.
Courtiers, Emissaries & Guests of the Night
Moving throughout the Ball are fae and mortal figures who appear much like any other guest - yet speak with particular care, curiosity, or urgency.
These courtiers and emissaries may:
mingle freely
engage guests in conversation if invited
share observations, rumors, or differing perspectives
They are not there to test or challenge you, but to further the immersive story. A polite disengagement is always welcome.
The Night Market & Wandering Vendors
The Night Market is animated by vendors both fae and mortal - some stationed at stalls, others roaming gently through the evening.
They may offer:
trinkets and charms
curiosities and keepsakes
light conversation or playful banter
You are always free to browse, to chat, or to decline with a smile.
Diviners of the Parlour
Tucked away from the bustle of the Ball, diviners offer moments of quiet reflection within the Divination Parlour.
They may practice:
palmistry
tarot or rune readings
other symbolic or intuitive traditions
Readings are atmospheric and reflective; meant to invite curiosity rather than predict outcomes. Participation is always optional, and no prior belief is required.
Tricksters & Wandering Performers
Throughout the night, you may encounter tricksters, musicians, dancers, and other performers who bring motion and surprise to the space.
Some offer riddles or playful challenges. Others simply delight in mischief, music, or spectacle. All are meant to enhance the atmosphere, not demand attention.
Those Who Walk Among You
Some members of the cast move through the Ball appearing much like any other guest; conversing, observing, and occasionally planting small seeds of story in passing moments.
You may not always know who is a performer and who is not - and that uncertainty is intentional. Treating all guests with courtesy and curiosity ensures every interaction remains natural and respectful.
Before You Continue
You are never expected to impress, persuade, or perform.
Conversations may be accepted or declined. Invitations may be welcomed or refused. Watching from the edges is as valid as standing at the center of the floor.
The people you encounter are there to help shape the texture of the evening — not to measure your participation.
